Gray Hair Products
Since posting my gray hair journey on YouTube, I have had a lot of comments asking about the products I use to keep my gray hair healthy. Working and maintaining gray hair is new for me, so experimenting with different products formulated for gray hair is a must. The gray hair products below are a supplement to my regular non-purple hair care products I use.
Every time I walk into Ulta, Sephora or one of my professional beauty supply stores I am scouring the aisle for products that say “Silver” “Gray” “White” ANYTHING, but unfortunately I don’t seem to have that many options. Recently I was in Philadelphia for work and DryBar happened to be just down the street from my hotel.
I always find it a real treat to book an appointment for a blowout, have a glass of bubbly and feel like a million bucks the second you get out of the chair.
My stylist used a new shampoo and conditioner made for blondes and gray hair called ‘Blonde Ale.’ Even though this product is not technically formulated for gray hair, it’s meant to brighten, boost hydration and add shine. I have used ‘Sake Bomb’ in the past from DryBar and loved how moisturized my hair felt not to mention how amazing my hair smelled, but it wasn’t for “silver” hair. I was thrilled to have a formulation I could use once a week that was tinted purple to refresh my gray hair.
I bought the ‘Blonde Ale’ conditioner and brightening cream from DryBar but not the shampoo since I was using Phyto “Phytargent” brightening shampoo. This product is formulated for gray, white and platinum blondes. It neutralizes brassiness, banishing dullness and yellowing tints.
The Phyto shampoo is the most concentrated purple shampoo I have come across so far. It’s almost like a syrup it does not have any real foaming properties, but it’s packed with Cornflower Extract, Walnut Leaf, and Rhatany Root. I will apply this shampoo to my hair rinse then repeat. I leave the shampoo on for an additional two minutes to really brighten my gray. I bought a Phyto conditioning mask (not pictured and not formulated for gray hair) for extra hydration which I use once a week.
The ‘Blonde Ale’ brightening cream is becoming one of my favorites and is perfect for all hair types; it’s light and hydrating. I find that my wiry gray hair is controlled by this cream yet it’s not weighted down or greasy looking. I use a small amount on damp hair, avoiding my roots then blow dry. I feel very passionate about supporting DryBar’s products because they are Paraben, Sulfate and Phthalate free. I look gorgeous without exposing myself to harmful and needless chemicals.
Since it was October, I threw into the mix a little dry shampoo not only does it make my blowouts last longer and gives tons of texture to my hair. The proceeds from this limited edition bottle went to Breast Cancer Awareness. I love the travel-friendly packaging and of course that it’s pink. I hope this Gray Hair Products review helps you.
