Best Beauty Products for Winter Skin

Beauty Products for Winter Skin

It’s almost impossible to keep your skin dewy and glowing in the dead of winter. Even though I live in South Florida, I travel a lot for work that takes me into the brutal cold in New York City to super dry air when flying to Los Angeles. In today’s blog post I round up my favorite beauty products that will keep you looking hydrated and glowing even when it’s sub zero outside.

I have been experimenting with a lot of new products lately, and I am loving La  Mer “The Cleansing Oil” it’s incredibly detoxifying and hydrating to my skin. This oil cleanser contains precious marine oils that transform into a luxurious, milky fluid when water is added. The best part of this cleansing oil is that it contains the Miracle Broth that La Mer is so famous for. The Miracle Broth infuses skin with precious nutrients, immersing it in moisture. This cleanser removes my mascara and foundation altogether. I like to use this cleansing oil as a pre-cleanse when I have a big shoot or filming day, and I am wearing a ton of makeup. I do have to shake this cleanser before use to redistribute the natural pearl powders. This oil cleanser received the Allure magazine’s “Best of Beauty Award for Best Top Splurge in 2014.

There is nothing worse than having dehydrated dark circles under your eyes not just in winter but anytime. The last thing you want to do is apply a super thick concealer and look like you just spackled on your makeup. I have been using Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in “Light Warm.”  I bought this concealer last month because I was looking for a concealer that was demi-matte that had buildable coverage but was still luminous. It is a high-tech formula that melts right into my skin. I have experimented with applying it with my fingers and with a beauty blender. I find that the beauty blender gives a polished more even finish to my skin compared to my fingers.

Urban Decay’s Naked concealer is loaded with lots of good for your skin ingredients like Matrixyl 3000 say what? I know I am going to get a little techy on you now, but Hey, that’s what a beauty expert does. This little smarty pants ingredient contains anti-wrinkle peptides to improve skin’s youthful appearance and elasticity. Are you getting excited yet? Japanese green tea is also infused into this concealer to revitalize and help reduce the appearance of fine lines. A super fresh ingredient called Litchiderm which is derived from lychee fruit (I love lychee martinis!) protects against dehydration which results in brighter, more radiant complexion. Last but not least an essential powerhouse ingredient called sodium hyaluronate which helps skin attract and retain moisture.

So needless to say I love what I see with this concealer so far. It’s been almost impossible for me to find a great concealer that covers dark circles or any discoloration without looking like I have no idea what I am doing in the under eye category.

Speaking of eyes, I also picked up Caudalie Resveratrol Eye Lifting Balm. It’s ideal for all skin types and is an innovative, natural eye balm with a breakthrough patent to lift and smooth the areas around the eyes and lips. I have found this balm to be extremely hydrating. It claims to help with fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness and elasticity and dryness. It’s a great eye balm to travel with for plumping up the eye area.  My eyes get so dehydrated from flights and icy winter wind that I am always reaching for this product in my bag. Caudalie’s eye balm is also a little techy with ingredients from Vine Resveratrol (Do you think of Vicky and Brooks of the RHOC when you hear Resveratrol? LOL, I do) with Micro Hyaluronic Acids which helps support the skin’s production of natural hyaluronic acid. Peptides which will visibly lift and redefine contours and Plant Complex to lift the eyelids and diminish dark circles. I am sold on the cooling and tighting that I am experiencing when using this product.

Whatever you do don’t let your lips get chapped. Once you go chapped, you are dealing with at least two to three days of annoying peeling that does not look glamorous. GrandeLips Hydrating Lip Plumper is a smooth, natural formula with long-term benefits. Infused with Volulip and hyaluronic acid GrandeLIPS instantly improves lip volume in three to five minutes adding a pop of lip-boosting color while hydrating dry areas. This is not your typical burn til you plump type of formulation. It’s very mild yet super hydrating. I bought two shades the “Barely There” as seen above a light pale nude and the “Pale Rose” a light pink. It is clinically proven to increase overall lip hydration, volume, softness, and firmness in 30 days when applied twice daily. I like the sweet smell of vanilla when I apply the lip plumper, and the pump applicator is easy to use. I always have a lip treatment in my purse no matter what I am doing or where I am going. I want my lips to be plump and hydrated at all times. If you have ever been in the super cold and had dry, cracked lips, it’s game over.

Let’s talk about your pillowcase, shall we? No one is talking about what you lay your head on every single night and how it could be contributing to your wrinkles Yikes! It’s amazing how much damage a cotton pillow case can do to your face and hair. While I was online shopping at, of course, Nordstrom (my small addiction), I found SlipSilk an anti-aging, anti-sleep crease, anti-bed head pillowcase. The company claims it’s like an eight-hour beauty treatment every night Holla! It’s crafted from pure silk inside and out which makes it super luxe. In the past, I have tried to cheap out and have bought satin pillowcases which was like sleeping on sandpaper compared to the SlipSilk. My little Frenchie loves it to if you don’t believe me check out her Instagram.

SlipSilk pillowcase elevates beauty sleep to a whole new level. Silk fibers are significantly less absorbent than many other fibers, so they help keep your skin’s moisture and expensive face and hair products where they belong on your face and in your hair not absorbed in your pillow. Cotton pillowcases cause your hair to pull and tangle throughout the night, bed head anyone? Slipsilk reduces friction which reduces the pulling with your hair and also reduces the tugging and stretching with your delicate facial skin. I am in love with the results and bought one in pink for myself and one in caramel for my Mum. It was worth the investment and I travel with it everywhere.

OK so as you can see everything is about hydration in this post because without hydration your skin looks blah. The most important product during winter when it comes to your makeup is a hydrating foundation. There is nothing worse than putting on a foundation that looks dry and cracks, talk about ageing yourself within minutes. I have been through a couple of bottles of Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. It’s an award-winning, oil-free foundation that offers all-day sheer to moderate buildable coverage. It’s weightless and features an exclusive ingredient called Micro-fil technology. It has a very silky texture and makes my skin look luminous even when I am battling some flaky skin. Luminous Silk is an excellent foundation if you have dry skin as it will hydrate without adding too much weight to your skin.

I don’t know what it is but I have such a hard time not just in winter but almost every day keeping my cuticles looking hydrated and nourished. Butter London’s Handbag Holiday cuticle oil has been my go-to for years. It provides me with long lasting hydration even on my most horrific cuticle days and smells amazing. The formula contains safflower oil, which is a natural moisturizer and helps soften and repair dry, snagged skin. One of the reasons I picked this brand is because they do not add formaldehyde, toluene or DBP to any of its nail formulations. You can find this product in every one of my purses because yes, I am obsessed. Even though they have discontinued this product, I found a couple of others here and here that I love.
