Let me start off by saying Yoga is amazing for the right person I am just not that person. I have a hard time sitting or standing in poses and quieting my mind. I have pushed myself to take all different types of yoga classes, chill out and meditate and get in touch with my inner spirit it just doesn’t feel right to me. Yoga makes me more anxious which is exactly the opposite of what it’s designed to do.
So with all that said I had found my inner peace at Pure Barre. The ironic thing about this is Pure Barre is a mixture of barre, Pilates, and YOGA.
I love Memorial Day Weekend; it represents the start of summer for me and a time when things slow down a bit at my makeup studio. Memorial Day to Labor Day is the time where I get to chill a bit, set personal and physical goals for myself and enjoy the slower pace. This year I am challenging myself to a three-month Pure Barre Challenge. Yes, that’s right ladies my goal is to complete fifty Pure Barre classes by August 31st, 2017.
So what exactly is Pure Barre? I didn’t have any idea other than it’s just another fad workout like the rest of them right?. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Pure Barre is the fastest, most efficient way to change your body without killing yourself or putting your body through extreme physical stress.

The Pure Barre technique utilizes the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements along with light weights, a tube and a little red ball all set to fantastic music. I have to admit the music is one of my favorite aspects of the class. Pure Barre is a total body workout that lifts your booty, tones your thighs, abs, and arms plus it burns fat in record-breaking time. Long, lean bikini machine is the idea. So you can see why I have decided to challenge myself to a three-month Pure Barre experiment and why not? It’s summer, and I want to look my best sipping a little Rose with my new sculpted body.
Get ready to be sore and don’t let that discourage you. After my first Pure Barre class, I was sore but sore in all the right places. By my second class, I was sore but not nearly as much. The key is to create a schedule for yourself and stick to it. The more you go, the stronger your body gets and the less sore you feel.
Let’s talk about this “tuck” that Pure Barre is known for shall we? Ay, Papi, I am still trying to master this small challenging “tuck.” I watch the instructor doing this small little “pop/tuck” (meaning you tuck your abs in as you drop your tailbone and rotate your hips toward your rib cage) maneuver and I am like what the heck? Why can’t I get my body to do that? Patience is key I will have this down by the end of summer. Unlike other fitness studios, Pure Barre doesn’t use tons of confusing lingo; it’s very clear from neutral spine to heavy tailbone you don’t need to have a translator to take the class.
