Simple Steps to Break Out of Your Beauty Rut
How many times have you woken up, looked in the mirror and said: “UGH I am so annoyed with my hair, my skin, my makeup?” Possibly every other day or at least once a week, right? Break out of that beauty rut girl! I know how easy it is to get caught up doing the same look every single day. I found myself letting my chic bob grow out recently and pulling it back in a sad, sad ponytail. It was almost like a tired, lazy default look that I did every day. I know I am not the only one that falls into a lazy beauty look.
My advice? Follow these easy five steps below on how to shake up your beauty rut.
Two weeks ago I decided that I was going to cut off all my hair and start fresh no ponytails allowed. I am obsessed with Linda Evangelista’s short hair from back in the 90’s. I made an appointment with my hair stylist the fabulous Erik Allen Davis and brought in a full ridiculously detailed Pinterest Board and said: “Cut It All Off like Linda’s.” That didn’t go over very well even though I was completely prepared to do just that. Erik said that the look I picked out was high maintenance and if I didn’t style, round brush, and blow it out every day that it would look like a cheap hair cut YIKES! He wanted me to stay true to my classic look and give a super short bob a try. I agreed to cut it to chin length and the back as short as I could go. I love that I can’t pull my hair into a ponytail and I have a modern, stylish cut. I do become obsessed with cutting my hair when I go short so I wouldn’t be surprised if I do another hair update next month with it even shorter.
My Tips on How To Get Out of Your Beauty Rut
- Assess Your Look: Take a good look in the mirror and think about what you want to change. It might be the way you do your makeup, or maybe your hair color is outdated. Whatever it is figuring out your main beauty issue is your first step. Once you figure it out, don’t delay CHANGE IT.
- Create a vision board: This is one of the most important things you can do to communicate with your stylist or makeup artist. If you walk into a salon and say I want a new fresh cut, it doesn’t mean anything but if you walk in with visuals of the exact style you want BRAVO. Creative people like stylists and makeup artists can interpret your lingo in an entirely different way then what you are envisioning in your mind or even saying out loud believe it or not. Never try to just explain to your stylist what you want you must show pictures to communicate properly and get exactly what you see in your mind.
- Be Realistic: Know what your hair or makeup can do. When you see a picture in a magazine of a model or celebrity with the hair color or cut, you want to make sure you have similar hair thickness and texture. Just because Pink looks good with an ultra short platinum cut doesn’t mean that look will be the right one for your face shape or hair type. If you are going for a dramatic color change, keep in mind that some of these models are wearing wigs, or they have ruined their hair by going from brown to platinum overnight.
- Venture Out: Try out new looks with a professional makeup artist. An excellent way to try different makeup looks is by scheduling a makeup lesson at of course Fresh Beauty Studio, or you can try cult favorites like MAC and Sephora. I tell my clients when they book a makeup lesson with me to bring in all their go to make up this allows me to see what my client is using already. I will start to edit down her makeup and suggest products that will give her a fresh new modern look.
- Try a bold new lip color. This is the easiest way to break out of your usual beauty routine. As simple as it sounds it’s very scary for a lot of women to experiment with a bold red or deep wine colored lip. You don’t need to go that intense if you usually wear a pinky nude color try going just two shades darker and see how you feel. Keep your skin, eyes and cheeks light and watch how a little color can change your whole attitude.
